Civil partnership

The Civil Partnership Act 2004 finally came into force in the UK in December 2005, paving the way for thousands of same-sex couples to begin planning for, what has increasingly becoming known as a gay wedding.

A Civil Partnership is a celebration of the union of two people (of the same sex) who have chosen to devote their lives together, and for that reason it can be called a gay wedding.

Two people are only eligible to register as civil partners of each other if: they are of the same sex, neither of them is already a civil partner or lawfully married, they are over 16 years of age (with parental consent) or are over 18 years of age.

You need to be resident in Spain for two years or have the civil partnership in country of residence then have a symbolic ceremony here in Lanzarote. You can have a beach wedding or similar outdoor event.
