acrobat document Ceremony

Practising Catholics can be married in a church and a church wedding on Lanzarote is a beautiful experience. All the churches are typical of the Canary Islands and offer a cool sanctuary from the heat of the day.

If the bride and groom are both of the Catholic religion , they may choose a Nuptial Mass.

There will not be a Communion celebrated in the wedding mass ceremony as this is does not form part of the Spanish wedding custom.

Mixed religion marriages, between a Catholic and a non-Catholic can also be arranged. This will be approved with the local Priest in the country of residence and special dispensation can be obtained quite simply.

The marriage vows are the same in all the ceremonies, whichever version you choose; the bride does not promise to obey.

All documentation for your marriage needs to be sent from your priest to the Archbishop in Lanzarote, not by yourselves – the documentation has to go through the Church.

The wedding is administrated by the Church and registered with the civil court , therefor it is legally recognised in Spain, UK & Ireland and an International marriage certificate is issued by the local authorities.

The ceremony normally takes place in Spanish, however  a Lanzarote Weddings representative will be  present throughout the Ceremony, to assist if required. Before the wedding day, we will run through the Ceremony with you. Wedding sheets will be provided in English for your guests so they are able to follow the ceremony .

During the ceremony, you can have up to 3 guests make specified readings, please feel free to view examples >>

Music such as by a performer or CD’s can be played during the ceremony. Please refer to Services – Day Time Performers with prices available on request. CD music must be Religious or classical in reference.

There is a section where candles will be lit and extinguished by the Bride & Groom. We can provide these for you, but if you prefer to bring your own candles, you are welcome to do so.

A section for exchanging coins can aslo be included, this is very much a Spanish custom. Again we can provide these for you, but you may prefer to bring your own coins.

Your marriage certificate will be given to you before you depart, if this is not possible it will be posted soon after.

Please note, there is no Communion given during Wedding ceremonies.

It is not always possible to choose a particular church as they are booked up for many months in advance, however there are a number of churches available.
